Which way do the metal shower curtain hooks go, inward or outward?
They go inward so you can't see them outside the shower.
Oh yeah, while I'm thinking about bathrooms the toilet paper goes over the roll....

Inward. It should be less noticable from the outside of the shower looking at the shower.
The hook part should go in towards the tub/shower.
Depends on the type...the big end goes over the main bar and then the decorated part hangs out, or if none, then they both hang inside...the curtain.
In a decorator's perspective, inward. Also depends on the hook...if it has embelishments on it, you want it to face outward.

the hooks should point towards the shower.
Inward mine were is easy because one set has the flowers and the other ducks.
i would suggest you put them such that the ends of the hooks are facing in towards the shower/bathtub. this way, if you slip in the bath/shower the shower curtain will be able to come off instead of yank off the rail. and hell, it looks better too..
