How do I make a shower curtain with a window?

filled in category: Shower window curtains

I love the shower curtains they have in hotels now, you know the ones that have that plastic strip about six inches down from the top and then have regular fabric above and below the strip. I've tried to find one at stores and online, but have only found white, black and tan.

I want to try to make my own but am concerned about sewing the plastic to the fabric (having holes, tears, etc.). If anyone has tried anything like this before I need input!!

Shower window curtains

Here is one that is very clear except for the pattern on it. http://www.kohls.com/upgrade/webstore/pr…

You should not have any problems inserting a plastic strip into your shower curtain.
Buy heavy weight plastic from almost any large hardware store. They sell it by the foot.
Fold your fabric over the plastic strip in such a way that it is on both sides of the plastic on the top edge, with the fabric down over the plastic on the inside, then up over the top edge and down the outside of the plastic, just enough to make a good seam.
On the bottom, sew the fabric on the outside of the plastic.
That way there should not be any leaks.
I am thinking of using a sewing machine, however you could also use a good quality waterproof glue to join the fabric and plastic.

What if you took your outer curtain and cut "windows" into it? You could cut the openings a little smaller than needed and fold it back, stitching it behind to keep it from unraveling. It wouldn't show a full clear strip, but it would keep you from sewing to the liner and still allow you see out. It would also allow you to keep the full length of the curtain. Hope this helps.

Choose a frosted or clear fabric that is waterproof. Make that as the main curtain, and then cut and sew the hole in the basic fabric.

Hope I helped in someway! :)
